BlackJaQ – Multi award winning quartet! Formed in October of 2004, BlackJaQ competed in the Sweet Adeline International Region #34 Competition in May 2005. After only seven short months of singing together they were very proud to bring home the 'Winner’s Cup' to Western Australia, with what was then a record score 592. They have since proudly returned from two further competitions as the Silver Medalists and this year were thrilled to bring home the ‘cup’ and some more gold medals with an equal regional best score of 599! Carole (lead), who is the Australian Region’s highest quartet medal winner with 5 gold medals with Mischief Down Under and 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals with BlackJaQ, brings a wealth experience to the quartet. Jess (tenor) also has a previous gold medal with Mischief plus her 4 medals with BlackJaQ and has sung with Sweet Adelines since 1996. Both Kali (bass) and Linda (baritone) bring 13 and 15 years each of experience to the group, and now with 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals to their credit, they are no longer the ‘new kids on the block! In 2006, BlackJaQ released their debut CD “The Nearness of You”. Preview here and in August this year they will be releasing their second album. Stay posted for updates on this website for release details! Much of their entertaining repertoire has been arranged for the quartet by Bill McAllister. The members of this quartet are great ambassadors for the barbershop art form in Australia and are also proud members of Australia’s most successful women’s barbershop chorus Perth Harmony under the direction of BlackJaQ’s own Carole Macintyre. As well as being a competing quartet, BlackJaQ performs at public and private events, singing songs from many different genres. For BlackJaQ bookings contact our Manager: Helen Bolton.
